PM: Even Though Russia Used to Help Cambodia, We Still Do Not Support Any Foreign Policy to Invade Other Countries

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen responded to a social commentator who said that the reason Cambodia does not support Russia in the attack on Ukraine is because of the limited capabilities of the Cambodian military. The Prime Minister stressed that this commentator clearly does not understand Cambodia's foreign policy.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Cambodia-Korea Friendship ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) building Hospital of Ang Duong Hospital on Monday morning, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that Cambodia's foreign policy is based on the law and the Constitution of the United Nations, not on the use of force. He said that although Russia, a friend of Cambodia, has helped Cambodia in the past, the country’s official position is still to oppose the use of force or the threat of using force against any other country, to respect the independence and sovereignty of other countries.

He said, "Such an act of aggression, Cambodia cannot accept and cannot be neutral about. If the next day, Cambodia also suffered like this, who do we rely on? We pursue a foreign policy by law, not by force."

"Not only Russia, if any other country invades another country, Cambodia will oppose that that country’s actions as well, because Cambodia understands what it is like to experience aggression from other countries too,” he added.
